PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake device composed of a brake disc and a brake lining having acceptable braking performance. SOLUTION: This brake device is constituted of a brake disc made of reinforced fiber C-Si composite ceramic and a brake lining to be operated together with it by friction. The brake lining is formed of the same material as the brake disc, and the brake lining has hardness smaller than that of the brake plate, at least in the range near the surface. This brake device has high heat resistance with a little abrasion and the acceptable life.
