摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal device which enables a black and white display and is suitable for a color display by conducting the inverse transformation of the optical transformation performed by a liquid crystal cell against the light beams made incident on the cell over the entire wavelengths by an optical anisotropic body. SOLUTION: This device is formed by arranging a liquid crystal 12 which is made by holding the liquid crystal 17 that is twist oriented for more than 120 degrees and held between a pair of opposing substrates 13 and 13 and a single layer optical anisotropic body 19 between a pair of polarizing plates 11 and 18. Then, the angle between the optical axis direction of the surface which opposes against the cell 12 of the body 19 and the rubbing direction made on a substrate 13 of the side, on which the body 19 of the cell 12 is arranged, is set to approximately 90 degrees. Moreover, the body 19 has the characteristics to conduct the inverse transformation of the optical transformation performed by the cell 12 against the light beams made incident on the cell 12, over the entire wavelengths. Thus, a perfect black and white display is obtained, the light quantity in a passing condition is increased and a brighter display is obtained.
