A friction clutch 1 has lift bars 15 which are fixed, eg by screws 18, to a pressure plate 11 and engage a diaphragm spring 7 so that as the diaphragm spring 7 pivots the lift bars 15 automatically lifts up the pressure plate 11, thereby, for example, reducing vibrations, noise and chatter. The lift bars 15 have, at least under the action of a centrifugal force, a friction connection 16 with portion 21 of clutch cover 6. To ensure that there is a frictional connection between the lift bars 15 and the pressure plate 11 or cover 6 a radial pretension may be provided by forming the lift bars 15 with hooked area 16 which through sections 16b resiliently adjoin portion 21. Lift bars 15 may be three in number and made of spring steel having a coating of friction or sliding material, eg a phosphate layer or a hard nickel layer. In another embodiment tabs (110, fig 6) are provided to make a swivel connection between the diaphragm spring 7 and cover 6. Also disclosed is means for dismantling the friction clutch 1 from a twin mass fly-wheel. |
