A watthour meter socket adapter (10) has front and rear housings (32, 30) which encompassingly surround jaw contacts (64, 66, 90), electrical conductors (120, 122) and terminals (150, 186). Apertures from the housing allow insertion of a meter blade terminal (18) into the jaw contacts. A surge ground frame (34) is inserted at the rear housing (30) with tab (306) sliding into aperture (620) in the rear of the housing. A communication connector (60) mounted on the sidewall of the housing for external communication to the adapter. A lockable cover (36) is provided for the communications connector.
