For the production of hollow fibrous membranes for microfiltration, ultrafiltration or gas separation, a ceramic powder is mixed with a binder to form a paste and said paste is extruded via a spinneret to form hollow ceramic fibres. The powder particles are then sintered to one another. As binder, use is made of a binder dissolved in water or another simple solvent or of a thermosetting binder or of an inorganic binder or a combination of said binders. The paste formed must be sufficiently viscous without heating to be suitable for extrusion. In the case of a binder dissolved in water or another simple solvent, at least some of the water will be evaporated out of the fibres immediately after the extrusion process but prior to the sintering, specifically at a temperature of at most 40 °C. In this process, the binder is gelated and the fibre rapidly acquires rigidity.
|
