<p>A microporous hollow fiber membrane device for clarifying and purifying a feedstream. The membranes are capable of forming a shear effect or Dean vortices at their inner surface. The filtrate channel and/or the fibers may contain one or more type of capture materials, such as ion exchange resins, for selectively capturing and retaining certain molecules from the filtrate of feedstream. Alternatively, the capture materials may be kept in a separate chamber or module downstream from filtrate outlet, such as in the recirculation loop. Once the filtration course has run, one or more eluants are run through the capture materials to selectively recover the captured molecules. Optionally, the capture materials are located within the filtrate channel and are used in conjunction with a coflow of filtrate to provide trans-membrane pressure control.</p> |
