The invention concerns a method for processing a current video image (1) which consists in producing first signals (5) associated with the image zones and representing the fixed and varying characteristics of the image at a given time and in producing a second signal representing the time interval during which the first signal associated with the zone indicates a fixed characteristic or a varying characteristic of the current image (1). The current image (1) is processed on the basis of the second signal value. The invention is particularly adapted to monitoring systems using fixed cameras.
