The procedure includes fine water droplets produced by spray heads positioned at intervals in a building to provide a protective curtain against fire. The procedure consists of creating a mist of very fine water droplets which have a low kinetic energy and pressure. The droplets are less than 200 mic in size and created from water at an initial pressure of between 5 and 200 bars, depending on the density of mist required, and micronised by a compressed gas or a pump. The gas used to produce the droplets can be compressed air or nitrogen, and additives can be put into the water to produce a neutralizing or antibacterial effect. The mist is created with the aid of spray heads (2) positioned in a building (3) at intervals sufficient of produce a protective curtain, i.e. a maximum of 4 m apart and 2 m from walls. Where appropriate, the spray heads can be set up in a special protective cabin (4) inside the building.
