A first card half is injection molded and a coil is positioned on it. A second card half is then injected onto the first to embed the coil between them. A similar process may be used for embedding other objects in a plastic component. Both injecting stages are effected in the same tool (41), the first stage being in one cavity (48) and the coil placing and/or second injection stages being in a second cavity (49,50). Independent claims are made for: a) equipment for producing a coded card with an embedded coil and including a tool (41) with two cavities (48;49,50) matching the card shape and two handling systems, one for placing a coil (12) on the first card half, the other for moving the first card half from the first cavity (48) into the coil positioning station (55) and the second molding cavity (49,50); b) a similar process and equipment for molding a plastic component with an object, e.g. an impression, foil, plastic component, hologram, magnet or engraving, embedded in it. Preferred Features: Injection of the first card half and coil positioning may be simultaneous or consecutive. A separate positioning station is used in the latter case. A coil together with a chip is bonded to a first card half with an adhesive carrier film in the positioning station which includes a hot press. The molding tool may comprise two tool halves, one of which rotates for card half transfer or alternatively comprises two axially moving tool halves (42,43) and a separate handling system (75) which moves between the open halves for card transfer between cavities and also the coil positioning station. When embedding objects other than a coil at least one of the plastic component halves is transparent. |
