The electrical steering servo device has a steering torque determination device (1) for establishing a steering torque. A motor (2) generates a steering servo force and an arithmetic device (3) outputs a motor drive signal in reaction to the output signal of the torque determination device. There is a motor drive direction limiting device (5) for the motor drive direction in reaction to the output signal of the torque determination device. A logic circuit (6) accepts a logical value of the motor drive direction which is established by the arithmetic device and the motor drive direction which is limited by the limiting device, and to output a signal to lock the motor drive in a direction which is limited by the limiting device. A motor drive device (7) drives the motor in reaction to the output signal of the logic circuit and a motor current determination device (4) determines the current flowing through the motor. The drive direction limiting device handles the motor current established by the determination device with a filter which has a charge time constant and a discharge time constant that differ from one another. A drive direction limiting range is variable in reaction to the motor current value after the filter process.
