Apparatus for treatment of waste water containing organic contaminants comprises an ultrafiltration unit (3), a reverse osmosis unit (5) and an oxidation reactor (14). The permeate line (4) from the ultrafiltration unit is connected to the inlet of the reverse osmosis unit. The permeate line (6) from the reverse osmosis unit provides an industrial water stream (7). The concentrate lines (11, 12) from the ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis units feed into an intermediate waste water tank (13), which is connected to the reactor (14) for catalytic oxidation of organic contaminants with Fenton's reagent. The reactor is connected to storage vessels for supplying a ferrous salt (15), an acid (16), an alkali (17) and hydrogen peroxide (18). The outlet of the reactor is connected to a filter unit (19) for removing precipitated iron catalyst from the resulting waste water stream (21). Also claimed is an apparatus stated to be as above where the reverse osmosis unit is replaced by a nano filtration unit. |
