The multifunction display unit has a data processing unit and a display panel with a display screen, which can also have function keys, and further functional elements (6) and/or a CD chute (5). The display panel can be moved between a parking position and a communications position (K), in both of which it is essentially vertical. In the communications position the panel is displaced upwards. In the parking position it covers the further functional elements and/or chute, which are accessible in the communications position. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for carrying out the method.
