Nematic liquid crystal mixtures for plasma-addressed displays

Compounds with 2-4 para-linked cyclohexane, cyclohexene, or optionally fluoro-substituted benzene, pyridine or pyrimidine rings and with terminal alkenyl and/or alkenyloxy groups are components of nematic liquid crystal mixtures for plasma-addressed displays. Nematic liquid crystal (LC) compositions for plasma-addressed displays (PALCD), containing compound(s) of formula (I). R<1>, R<2> = 2-8C alkenyl or alkenyloxy; Z<1>, Z<2> = a single bond, -(CH2)2-, -COO-, -OCO-, trans -CH=CH-, -CH2O- or -OCH2-; A<1>-A<3> = trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene (optionally with 1 or 2 non-adjacent CH2 groups replaced by oxygen), 1,4-phenylene or its 2-fluoro-, 3-fluoro-, 2,3- difluoro-, 3,5-difluoro- or 2,6-difluoro- derivatives, 1,5- pyridyl (sic) or 1,5-pyrimidyl (sic) (both optionally with 1 or 2 H replaced by F); n = 0, 1 or 2 . An Independent claim is also included for LC displays containing these LC compositions, preferably with a system for plasma addressing the LC layer.
