Multiple section biopsy using single section computer tomography

A collimator in front of the patient is controlled to spread the X-ray beam over the patient. Instead of scanning involving rapid backward and forward movements of the patient's body, the position of the collimator is adjusted to perform the spreading function by moving the beam from a reference position with the axis vertical to the scanning plane.
