A method for removal of samples from a measuring probe which, after being dipped into a steel melt in a metallurgical vessel, is brought into a separation station by means of a manipulator, where the lower section with the sample chamber is separated from the rest of the probe. The manipulator (11) places the probe horizontally on a stand. The probe is gripped at the section containing the sample and it is cut through on both sides of the sample, which is pressed out of the probe section. The sample is sent into a laboratory by means of a pipe delivery system and the empty probe section is loaded into a refuse container. Also claimed ia an apparatus for the above including a stand (41) for the probe, and a handling unit (21) with a gripper (23) at the end of an arm (22). The apparatus further includes a pusher-out unit (51) aligned with the entry (72) of the pipe delivery system for the sample.
