[Class 52(ii)] Relates to adjustable seats wherein the seat proper and an extension of the back form two members of a quadrilateral link system 'swingably mounted on a support for movement about a single axis and wherein a controlling mechanism is provided for controlling the movements of the pivotally interconnected members of the quadrilateral link system during a movement from one position to another. As shown in Fig. 7, the quadrilateral link system comprises the seat frame 714, the extension 724 of the back 712, a lower link 718 and a front link 720 pivoted together as shown, the whole system swinging about the pivot 716 carried by the support 711, 713 which pivot may coincide with the pivot between the back 712 and the seat 714. A control link 730 is at each side pivoted to the support 711, 713 and to one or other of the links 718, 720 either intermediately thereof as shown or to extensions of such links. To lock the seat in adjusted position a locking device 740 is provided comprising a rod carried by one of the quadrilateral members passing through a clip which may be operated to grip the rod if desired. Stops 736, 738 limit the seating and reclining positions. Fig. 6 shows a seat in which the members of the quadrilateral system and the control link 668 are adjustable in length. In addition a leg rest 658 is provided which is linked to the back extension 624 by a link 676 which also is adjustable in length to vary the inclination of the leg rest when the seat is in reclining position. |
