PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photochemical reaction catalyst using a tetravalent metal phosphate carrying silver, and a producing method of a compound containing hydroxyl groups. SOLUTION: A hydroxylation catalyst is represented by the formula: Aga Ab M2 (PO4 )3 .nH2 O. In the formula, A is at least one ion selected from an alkali metal ion, an alkaline earth metal ion, an ammonium ion and a hydrogen ion; M is a tetravalent metal, n is a number satisfying 0<=n<=6; and a and b are respectively a positive number satisfying a+mb=1. However, m is the valence of A. And, visible or ultraviolet rays are irradiated to a system in which water, organic compounds, and the above catalyst coexist. |
