PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to improve various features, such as reciprocity law failure due to illuminance, and contrast without deteriorating sensitivity by using silver halide grains each having a layer doped with heavy metal ions formed by precipitating heavy metal ions together with <= a specified amount of silver. SOLUTION: The silver halide grains to be used for the silver halide emulsion are each provided with the layer doped with heavy metal ions in an optional site of each grain in a layer thickness of <=10 nm and in an amount of 10<-9> -10<-4> mol per 1 mol of silver. This heavy metal ion doped layer is formed by precipitating the heavy metal ions together with silver in an amount of <=B represented by the formula in which B is the percentage of silver precipitated together with the heavy metal ions in the total silver halide grains, A is the percentage of silver precipitated together with the heavy metal ions it the site of the above- mentioned layer to be doped, X is the grain diameters (μm) of the finally formed silver halide grains, and Y is the layer thickness to be doped with the heavy metal ions of 0.001-0.005μm.
