PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connection performance measurement system and performance measurement method in an ATM network, where a band of an OAM cell required for the communication of performance measurement result of connection in the ATM network is reduced and the scale of hardware is reduced. SOLUTION: A device A (1) at a sender side termination point receives a performance measurement start instruction (101) from an operation system OPS (0) and sends an FM cell, receives a performance measurement result read request (102), generates and sends an FM cell to which a performance measurement result read request bit is added, a device B (2) at a reception termination point receives the FM cell to detect the performance measurement result read request bit and to integrate the performance measurement results and generates a BR cell to which the performance measurement result is given on the performance measurement result read request, and sends the cell by using a reverse flow, then the device A (1) receives the BR cell by the reverse flow, extracts the measurement result and informs the operation system OPS (0) of the result (103), consequently the band of an OAM cell is reduced and the hardware scale for the performance measurement result integration processing is reduced.
