PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recognition method for dial signal kind and an automatic line selection device that prevents an erroneous discrimination occurrence of the dial signal kind and can perform a precise signal kind discrimination. SOLUTION: A signal kind decision means 332 includes a signal kind discrimination means 3321 and a dial signal decision means 3322 and performs a dial signal kind recognition operation. The signal kind discrimination means 3321 discriminates the signal kind of dial signal fetched by a discriminated signal fetch means 331 from the top to the third digit by each digit and decides the signal kind over a majority as that of the inputted dial signal. When the stored inputted dial signal is less than two digits and an inter-row timer times out, the signal kinds is decided as that of an input dial signal in the case of the two digits are the same signal kind, and otherwise the dial signal on the first digit is decided as the dial signal of the input dial signal.
