PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbon micro coil that is useful as an electrode material and the like in high yield by thermally decomposing a specific carbon material in a specific temperature range and applying a static magnetic field thereto to control the coiling direction of the carbon fiber. SOLUTION: Onto the base plate to which the catalyst 2 comprising a transition metal as Ni, Ti, W or the like is placed, a dopant gas of compounds of element in group 5b or 6b of the periodic table, as hydrogen sulfide, a carbon source gas as a hydrocarbon as acetylene or carbon monoxide are fed together with a carrier gas as argon are fed and the carbon source gas is thermally decomposed at 600-900 deg.C, as a static magnetic field is applied to obtain carbon micro coils 1 with the fiber diameter of 0.01-5.00 μm and the coil diameter of 0.1-20 μm. In a preferred embodiment, the catalyst adhering to the top end of the coil 1 is always kept at 600-900 deg.C and the coils are grown >=1.5 cm. |
