PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively shorten time for rotating a light source unit due to switching pixel density by controlling a rotating means so that the light source unit may be restored to a standby position after finishing desired optical scanning. SOLUTION: This light source device is provided with a reference state detection means for detecting the reference state H.P of the light source unit with respect to the rotation around a reference axis Ax. When it is assumed that the operation states of the light source unit corresponding to the different pixel density and decided with the reference state H.P as reference are the operation states A and B and the standby state of the light source unit is the standby state (a), the standby state (a) is set between the operation states A and B the most separated from each other. A control means controlling the rotating means for rotating the light source unit controls the rotating means so that the light source unit may be restored to the standby state (a) after finishing the desired scanning. In such a case, the light source device is rotated from the standby position to the operation state in accordance with the desired pixel density when the multibeam scanning is newly performed. |
