The run-flat vehicle tire rim (12) has at least two coaxial ring-shaped sections (22,24), fitting into each other. The radially inner part (22) is of a relatively rigid material, to form an open ring round the rim. The radially outer part (24) is of a base material with elastic distortion, as a one-piece continuous ring round the inner part (22) with an inner diameter at least that of the outer diameter of the rim side edges (16) which hold the tire beads (18). The radially outer part (24) has an inner diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the inner part (22), for the two to be bonded together in a force fit. The outer part (24) has rigid ring units (28), embedded into the outer part material. The contact surfaces between the two coaxial parts (22,24) are at least partially in a truncated cone shape. The outer part (24) is held axially on the inner part by a locking ring and bolts parallel to the rim axis through holes in the inner part or are embedded in its material. The locking ring has an inner cylindrical surface with splines matching locking grooves at the inner part. The locking ring can be held in place at the inner part by the clip action of a split washer within a recess at the periphery of the inner part (22). The outer and inner parts can also be locked together by ribs and corrugated grooves at their facing surfaces. The radial inner ring part (22) can be in two sections, as coaxial open rings locked together. One ring (22) is keyed to the rim (12) and the other is locked by the outer part (24), with truncated cone contact surfaces between them. An arrangement of ribs and grooves key them together. The first ring part (22) is of a rigid plastics material, and the second ring part is of rubber or an elastomer material. The first ring part (22) can be in at least two arc sections, butted together round the rim (12), linked together by straps within recesses at their outer surfaces. A layer of rubber, or the like, is between the rim (12) and the first ring part (22).
