The pad has a return spring in the form of a loop having a maximum diameter which takes it beyond the edge of the end lug to give it a friction fit in the stirrup recess, with the spring end tips able to be extended to act as pad wear indicators. The brake pad has a friction lining on one side of a supporting plate (1) which has at least one end lug (11) engaging with a stirrup recess and a return spring (3). The spring is in the form of a loop (31) which extends in a plane parallel to the supporting plate on the opposite side to the friction lining. The two ends of the spring lie perpendicular to that plane and are inserted in holes in the plate. The distance between the holes is smaller than the spring loop diameter but equivalent to at least a third of that diameter, and they line on a line drawn from the lug to the median zone of the plate. The spring's loop has a maximum diameter (D0) which takes it beyond the edge of the lug to give it a friction fit in the stirrup recess, and the tips of the spring ends can be extended to act as pad wear indicators.
