The suction system comprises a frame attached to the waste container of a waste disposal vehicle. A suction fan is installed on the frame and is driven by a fluid operated hydraulic or pneumatic drive unit (10) which is connected to a hydraulic pump on the waste disposal vehicle. The drive unit has a hydraulic motor (16) and a two or three way valve (13) connected to it, and a replenishing valve (20) is connected parallel to the hydraulic motor.
