For the operation of a manual vehicle gearbox, the gear shift (1) sets the position of the selector rods and/or rockers by a ratchet in at least two different settings. The ratchet (8) is pressed by a spring (2,7) into the recess (5) of the required setting at the switch unit. The spring is formed by a leaf spring. A support body (4), in the switching direction, is a counter unit for at least one spring tongue (7).
