Seasoning powder for food and drinks with bread aroma comprises freeze-dried, finely ground pumpernickel (black Westphalian rye bread). Also claimed is a method of making seasoning powder with a bread aroma which comprises reducing loaves of pumpernickel to crumbs with an average diameter of 0.5-2 cm; freeze drying to a water content 1 wt.%; and grinding to a soluble powder with a particle size 0.05 mm.
