The present invention relates to a system for replacing the water in an air humidifying device. Through the use of the system only fresh water is delivered into the atmosphere by the humidifier. The system is such that it can be retro-fitted into an existing humidifier. In its broadest context, the present invention incudes a means for discharging a supply of water from the water pan of a humidifier and a discharge control means. The discharge control means is such that water is discharged only under certain conditions. Specifically, in one embodiment means are included to permit the discharge of water as part of a timed cycle. In an alternative embodiment, the water is discharged when the mineral level of the water reaches a predetermined level.
