<p>A pipe joint system which includes first and second tubular members (12, 14) each having an end portion (42, 56) arranged for connection to the other, wherein at least the end portion (42) of the first tubular member (12) is formed of a recoverable plastic, so as to be selectively deformable and thus enable the end portions (42, 56) of the first and second tubular members (12, 14) to be fitted together in a mating arrangement; and bi-directional gripping apparatus (45) having outwardfacing and inwardfacing surfaces configured to be disposed between opposing surfaces of the end portions (42, 56) of the first and second tubular members (12, 14) when fitted together, the outwardfacing and inwardfacing surfaces defining textured contact portions (52) which are formed of a material that has a hardness greater than that of the opposing surfaces of the end portions (42, 56) of the first and second tubular members (12, 14).</p> |
