<p>Prepn. of hydroxymethyl-cyclopropane (I) from cyclopropane-carboxylic acid 1-10C alkyl ester, comprises hydrogenation of the ester with excess hydrogen, at a pressure of 50-350 bar and a temp. of 150-350 deg.C, in the presence of a catalyst (which is free of chromium and contains zinc oxide).</p>
