Cpd. of formula (I), or fuel-soluble salt thereof, is new. Where A = hydroxy, nitro, amino, N-alkylamino contg. 1-6C alkyl or N,N-dialkylamino contg. 1-6C alkyl; R1 and R2 each = H, hydroxy, 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy; R3 = H or 1-6C alkyl; R4 = H or acyl of formula (II); R5 = polyalkyl or polyalkenyl or average mol.wt. 450-5000; R6 and R7 each = H, hydroxy, 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy; n = integer 0-2; x = integer 2-5. Also claimed are: (a) fuel compsn. comprising a major amt. of hydrocarbons with b.pt. in the gasoline or diesel range and an effective detergent amt. of (I); and (b) fuel concentrate comprising an inert stable oleophilic organic solvent of b.pt. 150-400 [deg]C and 10-70 wt.% (I).
