The invention concerns a device and a method for de-icing a live conductor (12) which consists in: first detecting the presence of ice in the surroundings of the conductor (12) by means of a sensor (32) and then in emitting, by radio wave, a triggering signal to a source of electromagnetic pulses (28) located in the proximity of the conductor (12). The source (28) then produces electromagnetic pulses which circulate in one or pairs (14) of conductor wires (16, 18) coiled along and around the live conductor (12). The electromagnetic repelling power to which conductor wires (16, 18) are subjected when a current flows through them causes them to move, thereby breaking the ice formed on the live conductor (12) and causing it to fall.
