<p>A method of joining an annealed magnetic armature of an electromagnetic actuator to a shaft is provided. The armature has an aperture therein and the shaft has a reduced cross section portion. The method includes inserting the shaft into the aperture so that the reduced cross section portion is generally adjacent surfaces definig the aperture and applying a force to the magnetic armature to deform a portion of the magnetic armature in a region near the aperture so that material of the armature may engage with the reduced cross section portion of the shaft thereby joining the shaft to the magnetic armature.</p> |
