An erythromycin A derivative represented by formula (I) wherein n is an integer of 1 to 7, R<1> is a group represented by the formula: -SO2N(-R<7>)-R<8> or N-(R<10>)SO2R<9>, R<2> is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or a cinnamyl group, R<3> is a group represented by the formula: -OCO-CH2-R<11>, -OCO-R<11>, -OCO-NH-R<11>, -O-R<11> or -OCO-O-R<11>, R<4> is a hydrogen atom, or R<3> and R<4> together form an oxo group, and R<5> and R<6> are each a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof has a strong antibacterial activity against not only known erythromycin-sensitive bacteria but also erythromycin-resistant bacteria.
