PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To very precisely manage the power that can be taken out from a battery to be used in a hybrid vehicle, without causing overdischarging of the battery. SOLUTION: An ammeter 90b measures a current in a plurality of serially connected batteries 80. Voltmeters 90a measure terminal voltages across each battery. A microcomputer 90 calculates a linear functional formula by the method of least square, using the measured current and measured voltages and then based on this linear functional formula, calculates the maximum allowable power that can be discharged from each battery without causing overdischarging.
