PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double-layer capacitor and an electrode having a large electrode volume capacity at high current density and adequate strength for practical use. SOLUTION: In an electrode 2 for an electric double-layer capacitor made of PVDC(polyvinylidene chloride) resin carbide, and a surface roughness Rz of the surface in contact with a current-collecting plate is smaller than a surface roughness R of a non-contact side surface. The surface roughness Rz of the side surface in contact with the current-collecting plate is 8 to 12 μm, and the surface roughness R of the non-contact surface is get in a range of 16 to 25 μm.
