The invention relates to a belt retainer for load carriers, such as delivery vans, which belt retainer comprises a coil-spring-like spring element 8, a fitting part 7 for fitting the spring element and locking elements 11, 12, 13 for preventing displacement of the spring element in a direction that coincides with the longitudinal direction of the spring element. In order to make the belt retainer easy to manufacture, fit and use, the belt retainer is characterized in that the locking elements comprise a tongue 11, which is formed in the fitting part 7, can be placed around the spring element 8, and is designed to be clipped in a waist part 15 formed in the spring element, the diameter D1 of which waist part is less than the diameter D2 of the spring element in a first area 16 on one side of the waist part and adjacent thereto, so that the spring element has at least one shoulder 18, and the waist part together with the tongue part produce locking in the said shoulder 18, which prevents the spring element from being displaced out of the fitting part in a direction that coincides with the longitudinal direction of the spring element.
