The sonotrode (5) is formed with a piezo-quartz thickness resonator (2) that is sandwiched between two metal cylinders (3) that generate axial vibrations that are amplitude amplified through a reduced cross section coaxial amplifier (4). This is coupled (17) to the sonotrode that is a rotationally symmetrical ring that acts as a spring mass system.The input displacement causes the ring to bend a vibrate at its material frequency. The unit has 4 nodes set at 90 degrees to each other such that the displacement of the output tool (6) is equal to that of the input
