摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the simple and accurate determination of the degree of damage to a damaged building after a large earthquake by fixing both ends of a plurality of wires with the same lengths and different strain characteristics to two end members, fixing the two end members along distortion which is to occurs to a steel member of a building. SOLUTION: This determining gage is formed by fixing both ends of wires 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d with the same lengths and different strain characteristics to two right and left end members 2. The end members 2 and 2 are fixed on the surface of an earthquake-resistant- element steel member 3 along distortion which is to occur at the time of the new construction or the earthquake-resistant reinforcement of a building. Here, the strain characteristics of each wire indicating the strain degree of the steel member 3 are, 1/2 of the yielding strainsεr for the wire 1a, the yielding strainεr for the wire 1b, an intermediate value between the yielding strainεr and the fracture strainεv for the wire 1c, and fracture strainεv for the wire 1d. Then by visual observation after a large earthquake, it is determined that the fracture only of the wire 1a indicates the distortion of the steel member 3 in an elastic region, fracture till the wire 1b indicates the occurrence of a plastic hinge and the strain over an elastic region to a plastic region, the fracture of the wire 1c indicates the strain completely in a plastic region, and the fracture of the wire 1d indicates the possibility of the occurrence of fracture.
