PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and simply determine xylitol included in a sample by setting on an insulating substrate an electrode system having an operation pole and an opposite pole and a reaction layer, and including at least a xylitol oxidase in the reaction layer. SOLUTION: A conductive carbon paste is printed on an electrically insulating substrate 1 thereby forming an operation pole 4 which is brought in touch with a lead 2. The conductive carbon paste is printed on the electrically insulating substrate 1 to be in touch with a lead 3, thereby forming a ring opposite pole 5. An electrode system 8 is thus formed. An aqueous solution of a xylitol oxidase is dropped on the electrically insulating substrate 1 and dried, thereby forming a reaction layer 7. When a sample solution including xylitol is added to the reaction layer 7, the xylitol is oxidized by the xylitol oxidase. Thereafter, a voltage is impressed to the electrode system 8, whereby an oxidation current is generated. A concentration of the xylitol in the sample solution is obtained by measuring a response current value obtained at the time. |
