A machine for joining metal strip defiling along a longitudinal axis and comprises;- a) a fixed frame centred on the axis of defilement and on which is mounted a first retaining component with two jaws for clamping the downstream end of a first strip; b) a mobile frame centred on the axis of defilement and able to be displaced parallel to it with respect to the fixed frame, the mobile frame carrying a second retaining component with two jaws for clamping the leading end of the second strip following the first; c) at least three tools for joining the second and first strips; d) a cutting tool incorporating two cutting shears to simultaneously cut the ends of the two strips; e) a tool for butt welding the two ends of the strips; and f) a planishing tool for flattening the excess material on the two faces of the welded strips. The machine also incorporates:- a) a tool carrying chariot mounted to slide on a longitudinal guide rail extending on a first side of the two frames, parallel to the axis of defilement; b) at least two transverse guide rails arranged on either side of the tool carrying chariot and perpendicular to the direction of defilement; c) at least two chassis supporting the joining tools, sliding on the transverse guide rails; d) some means for controlling the sliding of the tool carrying chariot along the longitudinal guide rail to position the transverse guide rails in a working position, centred on a medium plane (Q) orthogonal to the axis of defilement; e) some means for controlling the transverse sliding of the tool support chassis to carry out the joining operations. |
