PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing device and a projection type display device capable of sufficiently exhibiting functions originally included in a conventional method and attaining higher luminance polarization illumination. SOLUTION: In this polarizing device having a light source part 1, a 1st lens plate 2 for dividing light source light projected from the light source part 1 into plural beams determined by an aperture constituted by plural lenses 2a, a 2nd lens plate 3 having plural lenses 3a whose luminescent spots are respectively constituted by plural lenses 2a of the plate 2, a PBS array 4 constituted of plural continued PBSs 5, 6 for polarizing and separating light beams projected form individual luminescent spots of the lenses 3a to P-polarized light and S-polarized light and projecting these polarized light components, and plural 1/2 wave-length plates 7 arranged on the projection face side of the array 4 and capable of converting one polarized light out of P and S polarized light components polarized, separated and projected by the array 4 into the other polarized light, plural plates 7 are arranged over the whole surfaces of the projection faces of plural PBSs 5, 6 constituting the array 4 on the approximately center part of the projection face of the array 4. |
