PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a sound that should be heard is not heard in the case that a received broadcast is in the MUSE 3-1 stereo mode, by tuning on/off a center speaker automatically depending on the sound multiplex mode of broadcast. SOLUTION: In a sound system having left, right and center speakers 19, 20, 21, the center speaker 21 is automatically turned on/off in the broadcast sound multiplex mode, and then the on/off setting of the center speaker 21 is optimally set in the broadcast sound multiplex mode independently of the on/off setting of the center speaker 21 by the user. Thus, a MUSE decoder 3 decodes a MUSE signal to obtain sound multiplex information and a microcomputer 8 controls a switch 15 based on input sound multiplex information to turn on/off the center speaker 21. When the entered sound multiplex information indicates MUSE 3-1 stereo, the switch 15 is closed to turn on the center speaker 21. When the entered sound multiplex information indicates bilingual broadcast, the switch 15 is open to turn off forcibly the center speaker 21. |
