PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-reference imaging tracking system using a laser directing device which enables a desired point of sight to be maintained at a target until the target is shot down. SOLUTION: A laser tracking system 10 incorporates a laser generator which generates a laser energy beam, a beam steering device which steers the laser energy beam, and a receiving device 16 which receives the laser energy beam reflected from a target object 11 and reduces the searching pattern of the beam steering device in response to the received laser energy beam. The system 10 accurately tracks the object 11 by using tracking data which are continuously updated by a closed loop method and can be locked on by whenever the fragile characteristic of a potential target is detected. The system 10 can indefinitely maintain a desired point of sight without requiring the intervention of an operator. Since the system 10 can maintain the point of sight, a related weapon can disable the target regardless of the shooting of projectiles and the relative motions between the tracking system and target while the system and target take flights. |
