PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to easily control the intrinsic resistance of an intermediate transfer material to a necessary region. SOLUTION: The intermediate transfer material 15 arranged between an image pickup member 10 and a transfer roll 9 is made of polyimide packed with fluorinated carbon. The polyimide layer packed with the fluorinated carbon has an adequately high modulus of elasticity in tension and embodies an improvement in curving failure life, an improvement in the chemical stability to a liquid developer or toner additives and the thermal stability and chemical resistance to transfer applications and an improvement in mechanical characteristics, such as curving failure life. The intrinsic resistance characteristic of the polyimide layer is variable in the fluorine content of the fluorinated carbon and is systematic and allows an integrated change.
