[Class 83 (iv)] A work-guide for a rolling-mill comprises a bent Y-shaped channel, the twin branches 11, 12 of which are directed towards the tail side of the mill, and a rocking switch blade 22 arranged at the junction of both said branches and closing the communication of either one of them with the third branch 8, the heel of said blade being provided with heel bosses 30 forming cams intended for being engaged by the loop 42 which forms itself in every rolled bar near the rolls of the exit stage on the head side of the mill, when said bar approaches the entry rolls of the following stage which delivers less metal, said loop thus automatically controlling the shifting of the blade. The blade 22 is pivoted at 23 and braked, to prevent uncontrolled swinging, by a washer, spring- mounted on a bolt 32 carried by the blade and moving in a part 33, Fig. 7 (not shown). The exit branches 11, 12, open into exit spouts 13, 14, respectively, which direct bars issuing therefrom to sets of roll passes b<SP>1</SP>, b2, respectively, of the second roll stage. In operation, and assuming a bar from roll stage A, Fig. 1, is engaged in branches 8, 12, lying underneath the heel part 30 which partially covers branch 12, and is entering roll pass b5 in stage B, then since rolls A and B rotate at the same speed a loop 42 (Fig. 8) is formed and disengages itself from channel 8 as it approaches the guide. A loop 41a is formed as rolling proceeds and eventually the loop 42 strikes the heel 30 and causes the blade 22 to rock, bringing its point to the recess 29, thus sealing the branch 12 and opening the branch 11 for the reception of the next rolled bar which will thus be directed into the roll pass b<SP>1</SP>. The sides of the channel are oblique, Fig. 9, to maintain the bar therein until the loop formation causes the bar to leave the channel. Guides may be provided at each stage of a train of rolls. |
