PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct contour evaluation for even an object to be measured having unknown or changing shape by conducting edge tracing flexibly for extraction of required measuring information and making effective use of sequence-of-points data on the extracted edge. SOLUTION: A measuring range designating part 41 is formed to designate the range of an edge to be measured, included in the image of an object to be measured. An edge extracting part 42 extracts the sequence-of-points data on the edge sequentially while tracing the edge of the range designated by the measuring range designating part 41. This system is also provided with a contour evaluation type designating part 44 to designate a contour evaluation type for evaluating the contour of the edge extracted by an edge information extracting means, and a contour evaluation part 45 for conducting contour evaluation processing designated by the contour evaluation type designating part 44 for the sequence-of-points data on the edge extracted by the edge extracting part 42.
