A universal joint (2) forming part of a transmission shaft (1) is protected by a cover incorporating a cap (8) held in place on the universal joint by a slip ring (9). It also retains a protective pipe (6), a protective ring (11) and a holding element (10). The protective ring is retained against the holding element by a blister (26) and springs (19).
