The coffee maker receives ground coffee which is compressed to a pill or cake for infusion with hot water and finally the cake is ejected. The coffee measuring chamber (25) is filled with ground coffee and the piston in the top of the compression unit (4) is depressed and the measuring chamber slid forwards to deliver the coffee into the compression chamber. The compression unit is directed on a track (10) to meet a compression head (9) to form a cake of coffee for infusion by hot water, after which it is ejected.
