A golf club head (10) having increased energy transfer and vibration dampening properties has various selected segments formed of a shape memory alloy (15). The shape memory alloy (15) preferably has superelastic (reversible strain) properties and preferably is able to exhibit stress-induced martensitic phase transformation. The presence of shape memory alloy (15), and resulting transformation from the austenitic to a martensitic phase upon ball impact, improves the vibrational dampening of the golf club head (10), thereby reducing the vibrational energy transmitted to the user upon ball impact. Additionally, the ability of the shape memory alloy segment (15) to perform work during reversible strain recovery enhances the ability of the club head (10) to transfer stored energy from the club head (10) to the ball at impact, thereby increasing ball distance.
|
